Iodine tincture for starch testing

Iodine tincture for checking starch conversion during mashing. A dark colour change indicates residual starch in the sample.

Take a small cooled mash sample without grain particles and add a drop of iodine separately from the mash vessel. Blue-black or purple colouring indicates starch. Do not return the tested sample to the mash.
